Mechanical Fitting Failure (MFF) reports from Gas Distribution Operators are no longer required by PHMSA. Zip file include 2011-2021 submissions. While individual MFF reports are no longer required, the Gas Distribution Annual Report form PHMSA F-7100.1-1 includes a count of mechanical joint failures resulting in a hazardous leak starting with calendar year 2021 reports.

The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration, Office of Hazardous Materials Safety (OHMS) provides written clarifications of the Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMR; 49 CFR Parts 100-185) in the form of interpretation letters. These letters reflect the agency's current application of the HMR to the specific facts presented by the person requesting the clarification. Interpretations are one form of Guidance provided by OHMS.

Series of Incident data and summary statistics reports produced which provide statistical information on incidents by type, year, geographical location, and others. The data provided is that from the Hazardous Materials Incident Report Form 5800.1

The Code of Federal Regulations (49 CFR Parts 191, 195) requires operators of Gas Distribution, Gas Gathering, Gas Transmission, Hazardous Liquids, Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), and Underground Natural Gas Storage (UNGS) to submit annual reports to PHMSA. Annual reports include information such as total pipeline mileage, facilities, commodities transported, miles by material, and installation dates. These annual reports are widely used by safety researchers, government agencies, industry professionals, and by PHMSA personnel for inspection planning.
