Fatalities, Injuries, and Illnesses in Train Accidents, Highway-Rail Incidents, and Other Incidents (4.08)

This report contains data for casualties, which includes fatalities, injuries, and illnesses, by train accidents (not at highway-rail crossings), highway rail crossing incidents, or other. Casualties are reportable fatalities, injuries, or illnesses arising from the operation of a railroad. The default display is one year of data. A train accident is a collision, derailment, fire, explosion, act of God, and other events involving the operation of railroad on-track equipment (standing or moving). A highway-rail grade crossing incident is any impact between on-track railroad equipment and a highway user at a highway-rail grade crossing. Data for injuries + illnesses is also known as nonfatal conditions.
All casualty incidents are reported to the FRA on Form FRA F 6180.55a Injury/Illness Continuation Sheet. Please note that suicide data is excluded from this dataset. For more information on this data, please refer to Data Definitions.
